A new year and a new start

It’s been so long since I gave an update on the bees I thought it was time. So much has been going on both with the bees and our life.

But, back to the bees….

I went into the winter with two nice size hives and one small one. Before putting them to bed for the winter I ended up combining two  hives, but then there was a small hive that I thought I would try to winter over in a single box. Sadly they didn’t make it. If I try it again I may try putting them in a Nuc box.But the other two appeared to come out fairly strong. One of the hives was a split I did last year and the other one was the two colonies I had combined.

They both have been very busy bringing in lots of pollen since the fifteenth of April. Last week I got two packages of bees which thankfully both queens were alive. Within a couple hours after giving them, they two had found pollen.

Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be to be over twenty Celsius so I can finally get inside and check for brood and do a mite test.

Thirsty girls

At the new property, things have been going slow, mostly due to not getting over there during the winter. But we are able to proceed now. We are heading over in the next day or two so the hive stand and adding another line to the electric fence is top priority this time.
We would like to move the girls over before swarm season, which normally for us, starts around the end of May.

Is it Spring yet

So hopefully we can pull that off. Well that’s about all the updates for now,
